Microvolt T-Wave Alternans (MTWA)

Medicare nationally covers MTWA diagnostic testing for evaluation of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death only when performed using the Spectral Analysis (SA) method (effective 2006-03-21). Methods other than SA are not nationally covered under this NCD, but beginning 2015-01-21 Medicare Administrative Contractors may determine coverage for other MTWA methods (e.g., MMA) within their jurisdictions; the NCD does not specify documentation or frequency limits.
