Policy Summary
Medicare covers home use of oxygen for beneficiaries enrolled in CMS‑approved, NHLBI‑sponsored clinical trials when physiologic testing shows PaO2 56–65 mmHg or SaO2 ≥89%. Coverage is limited to services performed on or after March 20, 2006 and does not change Medicare coverage for home oxygen provided outside approved clinical trials (see NCD 240.2 and 310.1). Documentation must include trial enrollment evidence and objective PaO2 or SaO2 test results.
