NCD337
Effective: May 25, 2010
Updated: December 31, 2025
Policy Summary
CMS has determined that the collagen meniscus implant is not reasonable and necessary for treatment of meniscal injury/tear and is therefore non-covered by Medicare for claims on or after May 25, 2010. The device is described as a bovine collagen scaffold used to fill meniscal defects (usually after partial meniscectomy) and is not intended to replace an entire meniscus; meniscus transplantation is not addressed by this NCD.
