Policy Summary
CMS covers annual low-dose CT lung cancer screening for asymptomatic beneficiaries aged 50-77 years with a tobacco smoking history of at least 20 pack-years who are current smokers or quit within the last 15 years, provided there is an order and a documented counseling/shared decision-making visit prior to the first screen. Screenings must be read by a board-certified or board-eligible radiologist and performed in a facility using a standardized lung nodule reporting system; Medicare Part B coinsurance and deductible are waived for this preventive service.
