Seat Elevation Equipment (Power Operated) on Power Wheelchairs
NCD376
Medicare covers power seat elevation equipment for beneficiaries who use complex rehabilitative power-driven wheelchairs when a qualified specialty evaluation confirms safe in-home operation and at least one functional need is present (weight-bearing transfers, dependent transfers, or reaching for MRADLs). Coverage for other types of Medicare-covered power wheelchairs is determined at the discretion of the DME MAC, and documentation must include the specialty evaluation, evidence of transfers or MRADLs, and wheelchair type. No national frequency limits or explicit non-covered indications are specified in this NCD.
