Policy Summary
Medicare Part B covers withdrawal treatment for narcotic addiction when services are furnished by a physician directly or under the physician's personal supervision and are deemed reasonable and necessary. Drugs furnished by the physician in connection with withdrawal are covered only if they cannot be self-administered and meet other statutory requirements, and determinations of necessity are made with the aid of the Medicare Administrative Contractor's medical staff.
