Policy Summary
Medicare covers breast reconstruction surgery after a medically necessary mastectomy for any medical reason, including reconstruction of the affected breast and reconstruction of the contralateral unaffected breast. Procedures performed solely for cosmetic reasons are excluded from coverage under §1862(a)(10).
