Policy Summary
Carotid body resection is covered when a carotid body tumor (mass) necessitates surgical removal; denervation of the carotid sinus may be covered for hypersensitive carotid sinus reflex after failure of medical therapy and ongoing deterioration. Carotid body resection performed to relieve pulmonary symptoms (including asthma) is investigational and not reimbursable.
