Gastric freezing (gastric cryotherapy) for chronic peptic ulcer disease is considered obsolete and is not covered. The procedure was abandoned because of a high complication rate, only temporary symptomatic improvement, and lack of demonstrated effectiveness in double-blind controlled trials.
