Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation and Auricular Electrostimulation

This policy addresses cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) and auricular electrostimulation devices (e.g., Alpha‑Stim, P‑Stim, e‑pulse, NSS‑2 Bridge) proposed for indications including anxiety, depression, insomnia, chronic pain and headaches, substance‑use/opioid withdrawal, and chemotherapy‑related symptoms. The policy considers these therapies experimental/investigational and not covered for all indications because available evidence is limited to small, short‑term or methodologically weak trials with modest or inconsistent effects and inadequate long‑term safety and efficacy data.
