Subtalar Arthroereisis
SUR705.027
This policy addresses subtalar arthroereisis (extraosseous talotarsal stabilization; sinus tarsi implants such as Maxwell‑Brancheau, HyProCure, Kalix, calcaneo‑stop) as a surgical option to reduce excessive talar displacement and calcaneal eversion for symptomatic flexible/painful flatfoot and related deformities in children and adults, often performed with adjunctive bone or soft‑tissue procedures. However, the procedure is considered experimental/investigational and not covered because of limited low‑quality evidence (mostly case series and small nonrandomized trials), variable outcomes and complication/removal rates, and coverage is subject to the member’s benefit plan and applicable state regulations.
"Subtalar arthroereisis/extraosseous talotarsal stabilization to correct excessive talar displacement and calcaneal eversion by reducing pronation across the subtalar joint."
