Absorbable Nasal Implant for Treatment of Nasal Valve Collapse
SUR706.017
This policy addresses insertion of an absorbable lateral nasal wall implant (e.g., LATERA) for treatment of symptomatic nasal valve collapse (NVC) and severe nasal obstruction from internal or external valve compromise. It applies to adults with symptomatic obstruction (for example positive Cottle maneuver, prior nasal trauma or surgery, or unilateral structural symptoms) but the procedure is considered experimental/investigational and not covered due to limited evidence (single short-term sham-controlled RCT, device removals and adverse events) and insufficient long‑term comparative efficacy and safety data—studies with ≥24 months follow-up are expected.
"Severe nasal obstruction associated with nasal valve collapse (NVC) or lateral nasal wall anatomic distortion."
