Sensory Integration Therapy and Auditory Integration Therapy
THE803.020
This policy addresses sensory integration therapy and auditory integration therapy and designates them experimental, investigational, and/or unproven and therefore not covered under standard policy terms. Coverage is limited to instances required by state law or plan mandates (e.g., Texas mandates; Illinois fully insured group/individual PPO, HMO, POS plans amended/delivered/issued/renewed on/ or after 2025‑01‑01 must cover therapy, testing and equipment for pediatric patients with qualifying clinical/genetic diagnoses involving low‑tone neuromuscular, neurological, or cognitive impairment), while therapies proposed for ASD, intellectual disability, learning disabilities, ADHD and other developmental disorders are otherwise excluded due to lack of FDA‑cleared devices and low‑quality, heterogeneous evidence with unclear dosing and effectiveness.
