Electromagnetic Therapy for Wounds – Commercial and Individual Exchange Medical Policyopen_in_new
UHC-POL-electrical-stimulation-electromagnetic-therapy-wounds
UnitedHealthcare deems electromagnetic therapy (EMT/PEMF/PEMI) for wounds and ulcers unproven and not medically necessary—excluding use for arterial ulcers, chronic pressure ulcers (including Stage III/IV), diabetic foot ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, and soft tissue injuries—and services billed with E0769, G0295, or G0329 are not authorized under this policy. Coverage is denied due to insufficient/inconclusive evidence and lack of FDA approval for chronic wound treatment; providers must check member-specific benefit documents and applicable federal/state mandates (Medicare Advantage plans may have different determinations).
"None — Electromagnetic therapy is considered unproven and not medically necessary for treating wounds or ulcers."
