Billing and Coding: Autonomic Function Tests
A54954
Autonomic function testing is covered when reasonable and necessary per LCD L35395 and should be coded using the CPT codes that correspond to the specific component tested (95921 cardiovagal, 95922 vasomotor adrenergic, 95923 sudomotor when CPT requirements are met, 95924 combined). Sudoscan and similar ESC devices do not meet CPT 95923 descriptors and must be billed as CPT 95999 with the term SUDOSCAN or ESC documented in Item 19 of the CMS-1500 (or electronic equivalent); CPT 95924 must not be reported with 95921 or 95922. Providers must follow LCD documentation requirements and the current year CPT manual and should use appropriate modifiers when billing non-covered services.
